Carbon Adsorption

Carbon filtering - Carbon filtering is a method of water purification that uses a block of activated carbon to remove contaminants and impurities, utilizing chemical adsorption. Each block of carbon is designed to provide a large section of surface area, in order to allow contaminants the most possible exposure to the filter media.

Activated carbon - Activated carbon (also called activated charcoal) is the more general term which includes carbon material mostly derived from charcoal. It denotes a material which has an exceptionally high surface area, typically determined by nitrogen adsorption, and includes a large amount of microporosity.

Carbon-carbon double bond - A carbon to carbon double bond refers to the bond state of the carbon carbon atom, which is bonded by two types of bonds together, which is the sigma bond and the pi bond. A carbon-carbon double bond is shorter and stronger than that of its single counterpart.

Reinforced carbon-carbon - Reinforced Carbon-Carbon (carbon-carbon or RCC) is a composite material consisting of carbon fiber reinforcement in a matrix of graphite, often with a silicon carbide coating to prevent oxidation. It was developed for the nose cones of intercontinental ballistic missiles, and is most widely known as the material for the nose cone and leading edges of the space shuttle.

Adsorption by Carbons

Adsorption by Carbons
Adsorption by Carbons bridges the gap between the fields of adsorption carbon adsorption and carbon materials, a gap, which has not been covered before in a single book. Numerous books exist that deal with adsorption, either from a fundamental or applied perspective, but this title is unique as it covers both gas-solid carbon adsorption and liquid-solid adsorption. * Relevant technological applications of carbon adsorption are discussed. *Considers important environmental applications, such as the removal of volatile organic compounds from polluted atmospheres. *Collaboration of highly respected authors.
